WIDOW WITH TWO COINS - DAY TWO

Scripture Reading :  Mark 12:41-44 / Luke 21:1-4

Yesterday we reviewed the widow's story.  Her gift was a complete abandonment of self and a full trust in God.  She had very little, yet gave so much.  Our society today places high importance on money matters, and striving to be "rich".  The Bible warns us about this attitude many times!  Here are a few examples :

I Timothy 6:10  -  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Mark 11:15 -  And they come to Jerusalem: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves;

Proverbs 11:4 - Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.

Proverbs 11:28 -  He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

Proverbs 22:1 - A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Mark 10:24 - And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

We are to place our love in heavenly things, and not the vain riches of the world.  Our society today seems to think that we are entitled to certain things.  Sadly this often leads to sinning in order to get or maintain these things.  Our chidren struggle, as do we, with knowing the difference between needs and wants.  Compared to most of the world, ALL of us are rich.  Our pocketbooks might get tight sometimes, but our spiritual cup runneth over.  We know that if we are faithful we can always turn to our brothers and sisters if we have legitimate needs.  When we speak of the homeless or the hungry, we try to comfort our children to not worry of these things for ourselves.  The Lord will provide our needs, and we will always have a church family to love us!!!  We also try to stress that we should do our part to help others - whether it be donating food or clothing, taking food to the berieved or sick, helping with children, buying gifts for those in need, and so much more.

Thought for the day : Have you talked with your children about these things?  What kinds of things have you done?  Who do you know that is in need?  What can you do for them?  Are you praying for them?

Tomorrow.........the riches of God's kingdom.

Blessings to you,
Shannon

TASTY  TREAT  TUESDAY

"LUNCH LADY BROWNIES"

I can't wait to try these......curious how they might be different than the Texas sheet cake we are used to.  Since I don't want to blow the Weight Watchers diet, I will have to wait for a special occasion where we can share with others!!!  If you make some, please feel free to make a comment and let us know how they turned out.
