SILLY SATURDAY!!!

Today was spent doing laundry, sanitizing, cleaning, and shopping!!!  As of now we are all doing fine. I pray that it stays that way.

I have decided that on the weekends I am just going to do short posts and save the women studies for weekdays.

Have a blessed night and may you be edified tomorrow, meeting with the brethren if the Lord wills.

ABIGAIL - REVIEW

Well.......kiddo is better, but now hubby is sick.  Hopefully the women in the house will stand strong!!!  If I go a day without posting, just assume that I am taking my turn.

Scripture ReadingI Samuel 25:2-42

Abigail's application to our lives today:

She was steadfast, no matter what came her way.  She tried her best to make good out of a bad situation.  She interceded when she saw a need and kept David from sinning.  Her courage and generosity showed her faith in the Lord.

The Lord does not promise a life without hardships, but he does promise us that he will always go with us if we remain faithful.

What is your marriage like?  Are you constantly dwelling on your husband's shortcomings instead of his strong points?  We know that marriage takes 3 and you MUST include the Lord.  Pray dilligently for your husband......that he will be blessed and that God will work in his life.  He needs your love and support.  Let him know that you appreciate him and the things he does for your family. Give your marriage to God and know that he will strengthen both of you.  You want to be his partner, both physically and spiritually.

Ephesians 5:31

For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
God bless,

ABIGAIL - DAY TWO

Scripture Reading: I Samuel 25:1-42

Questions to consider :

***What was the relationship like between Nabal and Abigail?
***Why were they not suited for each other?
***How did Abigail handle being in the marriage?
***How does this compare to women of today who find themselves in marriages where they can't relate to their spouse?

***What is your relationship with your husband like?  Do you respect him?  Does he respect you?  What kinds of things do you have in common?
***Is your husband more like Nabal or David?
***How were Nabal and David different?

***How do you respond when there is trouble......like David or like Nabal?
***How are you like Abigail?  Do you take care of those around you?
***In your life today......think of men you know that are like Nabal and those that are like David?  How do you react to them?

Tomorrow........how does Abigail's story relate to our relationships today???

God bless,
Shannon

ABIGAIL - DAY ONE

Scripture Reading:  I Samuel 25:1-42

Abigail's name means  "My father is joy"

Abigail was a peacemaker. She used her wisdom to save many lives.

Her father had given her away in marriage to Nabal, a foolish and arrogant rich man.  He thought that she would be well cared for.  Nabal's flocks prospered when David moved to that region to hide from Saul.  When David sent 10 men to ask Nabal for provisions, he laughed in his face.  He foolishly refused and insulted David.  When hearing Nabal's answer, David was angry.  Nabal's servants found Abigail and told her of the refusal, knowing that it put all of their household and camp in danger. They begged her to prevent this from happening.  She immediately went into action.  She packed up donkeys with many gifts for David, including 200 loaves of bread, five dressed sheep (ready for the fire), 100 cakes of raisins, 200 cases of pressed figs, and a bushel of roasted grain.  This would provide a great and convenient feast for David and his men.  When she saw him she fell to the ground at his feet.  She told him to blame her and not that fool Nabal.  She asked his forgiveness and told him that the Lord would grant him a long reign, that he would be protected by God, and his enemies slain.  He chose to bless her and thank her for keeping him from taking vengeance into his own hands.  She kept him from sinning and reminding him that only the Lord may take vengeance.  Upon her return she found Nabal drunk at a festival banquet, attempting to act like a King.  When he heard of her adventures his heart failed.  He died 10 days later.

Now for the second part of her life.  When David heard that Nabal had died, he asked Abigail to marry him.  She was pleased to make her own choice and become his third wife.  They had a son, Kileab.  Her act of wisdom had been that of a dutiful wife.  Life with Nabal could not have been easy, but she made the best of it.  She took a bad situation and turned it into good for others.

Tomorrow...........what can we learn from Abigail to apply to our life today???

VIRTUOUS WOMAN REVIEW

Scripture Reading :  I have selected some passages about wisdom.  The Lord obviously places great importance upon wisdom and our choice to be thankful for it, utilize it, and pray for more of it.

The first 2 passages I am going to quote, as I believe they are great "GEMS" regarding wisdom.  The rest you may take the time to look up and study on your own.

Proverbs 8:11For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

My Grandmother's name was Ruby Lee. I always think of her when I hear that verse as she was a very wise woman, and a great example of virtues.

Proverbs 16:16How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Psalm 111:10
Proverbs 3:7
Proverbs 4:5-7
Proverbs 9:10
Ecclesiastes 7:12
James 1:5-6
James 3:17

When we think of wisdom, many times we are referring to the wisdom of man.   We should praise God for the wisdom he gives us.  We should earnestly pray for Godly wisdom so we can use it to benefit ourselves and others.  Do you sometimes choose the wisdom of the world over God's wisdom?  When a problem arrises, do you go to man for solutions or go to the Lord in prayer and search His word for the answers?  Wisdom is truly a gift...........using it correctly can provide rich blessings.

***I have decided that I might not spend a whole week on each woman.......just however many days I have things to share.

God bless!

VIRTUOUS WOMAN - DAY 2

Scripture Reading :  Proverbs 31:10-31

Here are a few questions to consider:

How did the virtuous woman keep herself busy?  What were her daily tasks?  What do you spend your time doing?  How can you improve - accomplish more, organize better, prioritize???

Are you spending too much time doing things that take away from your duties (TV, computer, telephone, hobbies, etc.).  If so, how can you change it and yet still have some time to yourself to "relax"?

What was her relationship like with her husband?  How is it similar and how is it different from your own marriage?  Are there things you would like to improve?

Does she worry?  What do you worry about?  We should be more like her and have faith in the Lord that we will be provided for.

How do her husband and children treat her?  Do you feel loved and respected?   Why was she so worthy of praise?

Do you have to be the best cook, cleanest housekeeper, most beautiful woman to receive praise?   Certainly not!  These things are great qualities, but what matters is your attitude and the way in which you do your work.  Do it with a cheerful heart and you will be blessed, along with those you love.

Have a great day!!!
